September 2003 Winner - Paul Macdonld, Canada

At the launch of WaringstownTR7s.co.uk back on 15th September 2003 we set you what sounded like an insurmountable task. We challenged you to prove in words and pictures that you were even more obsessive about your TR7s/8s than Kyle is. We had a few people who fitted into the 'worthy of note' category, but one man stood out from the crowd.

Paul Macdonald of Canada, WaringstownTR7s.co.uk salutes a fellow TR7 nut! Click the pic above or the link below to find out, largely in Paul’s own words and pictures, the reasons why he deserves one of our T-Shirts (though we did consider putting our logo on a straight jacket).

Thanks for entering Paul and making Kyle feel sane.

And now for the evidence...

Kyle,

Just read your challenge on who can make you feel normal.......

I have three 'TR8s' (77 automatic coupe--it has aTR7 decal on it, but it is an original TR8, and 2 x 1980 convertibles) and a TR7 parts car (had to get rid of one other parts car this summer).

I have just about every metal TR7/8 toy made, as well as plastic kits, original t-shirt transfers, manuals, magazines, books.... most of the small toys are kept in a china cabinet...in the kitchen.

I am in the process of building from scratch a TR7/8 pedal car ( been working on it for two years).

Here are a couple of pics of the pedal car from last night. As you can see, the chassis under the car is upside down. It will sit a lot lower when the body is hollow. Notice the wheels have the 5 spoke mags similar to my black car... I plan to paint the pedal car to match the black car when finished.

And yes, I do have the belt buckle, and I made a remote control car out of one of the 'Barbie' type cars.

I even have a 3 foot by 4 foot painting of my black car in the front hall (my wife is an artist).

As well for the last two years I have been trying to track down all the TR8 Coupes that were ever made... I have tracked about 150 to their last or current owner.

I went to the Roadster Factory (Pennsylvania) Party and my black 8 was selected by Graham Robson as his favorite, out of the 70 TR8s that were there.

Here is a weird piece that I got from E-bay.. from a guy in Canada. He said that it was hanging in the dealership when he bought his TR7 new and the salesman threw it in with the car. It is laminated on a wooden plaque.

One more weird piece as well... ever seen a TR7 cookie cutter? I saw one on E-Bay a couple of years ago... went for a lot more money than I was willing to pay.... so I made one.... two actually. When I first made the cookie cutters a couple of years ago, I made a batch of cookies and took them to the local Triumph club meeting just before Christmas. A lot of yuks out of that one.... Everyone wanted one and most didn't eat them but took them home... probably still above their stove in the kitchen......

One last bit... see the black dinky car that is mounted on a stand. It started life as a beat up looking version of the white car in front of it. Just cut the roof and windshield with a Dremel , purchased a Ferrari HotWheels car that came in the clear box. Took the wheels off the Ferrari and put them on the TR Dinky.

I made a chair for my home computer room identical to your red check one... looks great. I am thinking about getting some arms for it from an office chair and bolting them to the bottom mounts.

Oh ya....... you're normal....at least as normal as I am (twitch, twitch)

Cheers
Paul
( PS if you go on E-Bay guess who is tr8.......)

(past the point where professional help will be of any value....hopeless!!!!)

Thanks for that Paul, very interesting and humorous. You now have a WaringstownTR7s.co.uk T-Shirt to add to your collection, congratulations!
