First job
is to make sure the wipers are “parked” i.e. in their lowest
most position. The near side wiper is the easiest to remove but removal
of either is similar. Get a broad ended screw driver and insert it into
the gap between the wiper arm itself and the fastening nut as shown in
the pic below. Do not slide the blade of the screw driver the whole way
in but rather come back out a few millimeters so you can clear the splined
end of the wiper rack. Now turn the screw driver anti-clockwise forcing
the wiper arm up and off the splines, lifting it off the remaining few
millimetres. Now remove the securing nut to detach the rest of the wiper
(drivers side only, unless you intend to remove the windscreen base finisher).
This nut responds to a 21mm or 22mm spanner, depending on how worn they
are. They are made of a soft metal and tend to wear more than an average
nut. |

When
refitting wipers start by making sure the wipers are parked and by setting
the blade on the windscreen at the level you wish them to rest. If it’s
the drivers side wiper position the trailing arm part, spacer, gasket
and tighten nut then push the arm over the splines. This might take a
few attempts to get the level correct. Remember that there tends to be
quite a large amount of play left and right in the wipers so check that
the newly fitted blade isn’t hitting off the windscreen finisher
when activated. The near side wiper just pushes on over the splines.
